About
I am the author of Black Macho and The Myth of the Superwoman, Invisibility Blues, Black Popular Culture and Dark Designs and Visual Culture. I am currently working on the following projects, which are partially available at my website http://www.michelefwallace.com: Blues People in African American Culture, Soul Pictures: Black Feminist Generations and Talking in Pictures: Race and Gender in American Photography.
I completed my Ph.D. in 1999 at New York University in Cinema Studies. My topic was "Passing, Lynching and Jim Crow: U.S. Visual Culture, 1895-1927," in which I wrote extensively about early film including Uncle Tom's Cabin, Birth of a Nation and the silent films of Oscar Micheaux.
